Alton today

Hi, I was a camper for only one year in '64 when I was 12 and Dick Lustgarden, if I remember correctly, was the cabin counselor along with Mouse Merrit, Dennis Krumholtz, David Saulk, & Erik Mishara (dif cabin), surprised I can remember as I was not too into it . I was at Alton for only one season because I was not too happy at Alton and went to Camp Wekeela in Maine for 1962,3,5,6, & 7.
Anyway, one spot at Camp Alton which I remember well was the top of the Point, or Clay Point because I used to go out there to the top of the Point by myself for a half hour or so and look down the Broads of the Lake with the waves rolling in below.
I have been told that on top of the Point there is now a mega-mansion being constructed for the individual by who is the owner of the NH Speedway, home of the Winston Cup and a venue for many large racing events. Also, I heard the the Town of Wolfeboro by referendum and the State of NH legislature did not want to purchase the Camp and build a Park, open to the public, due to lack of money and the loss of property tax if the Camp became a public property. Too bad, what a waste; the big beautifull spot ends up as one rich guy's estate. He previously owned a very nice home in Meredith, on the Lake, but now will not have to drive through all the Meredith traffc on his way to the Track in Loudon.
You know, Lake Winnipesaukee has 280 miles, I think, of shoreline and all of 1/4 mile of this is a State Beach & rv campgroung at Ellacoya State Park in Gilford. The State of NH has been here since 1789 and the current shoreline of the Lake since 1823 when the Lakeport Dam was built and this CHEAP State has 1/4 mile, if that, of shoreline open to the public. The Camp Alton land came on the market and the NH State legislature threw up their 420 State Rep's hand's and said "Oh, we just don't have the money for this right now!" Bloody, cheap, no good property tax system of NH is to blame for this public loss. Excuse me, if I sound pissed about this because I am!
