1st Flag Rush Memorial Reunion

Post by Sid »

It give me much pleasure to report that there was a get together, on Thursday August 23rd, in the lovely Philadelphia suburb of Bala to commemorate what would have been "Rush Day" in another life.
Notable attendees included the Brothers Cassway, Uncle Moish, Big Jeff, Mike Stone, yours truly and the honorable Tony Gillot who came all the way from the UK and amazed all by naming every person in the all camp photo from 1970 (I'm not shitting you, he can do it). This guy has amazing recall. He's a one man reunion. Seriously Tony, it was great to see you and to have the reason to get together.
It wouldn't be a night with Brecker if nothing outrageous happened. Well, we weren't to be disappointed. On our way out of the establishment, Uncle Markie walked up to a young woman who was smoking a cigarette and says (and I quote) "I work at Sloane-Kettering Cancer center and I'll come visit you when you come there and they cut your tits off" and then walks out of the bar. I'm pretty sure the only reason the guys with her didn't kick our collective asses was that Jordy was carrying his Schtick and didn't want a 50 tattoo. Or maybe it was Nick's 15. You think ??? Nah.

Regards to all,

Sid

Perhaps those "guys" actually cared more about the young lady than their own [collective] egos and/or appreciate the biblical inujunction gainst "standing by while your brother's blood is being spilt", etc.
Possibly they were afraid of the schtick, but I'd rather give humans the benefit of the doubt.

Pitz Schvitz

p.s. For every Israeli killed by terrorists 10 NON-smoking Israelis are killed by secondary smoke [mostly from their "fellow" Israelis].

what a coincidence...coming back to philly to visit parents and then seeing people from camp..great meeting the cassaway bros....with their flags.....
great getting rush flashbacks...i got nothing and had to like it....great job organizing by sid......tony gilott from england..that was a trip...
and then the legends....

being made to punch uncle moish in the stomach..i had not done that in over 20 years...i never wanted to do it then and i didn't want to thursday night..but what pitz schvitz wants..he gets...
being with jefferey was a fantasy..going back in time and laughing..the man still has the greates sense of humor of all time...he still cracks me up like he did in the 70's... everyone should somehow spend some time with him....he will always make you laugh......
for a couple of hours i was back at camp..performing lame robert klein material at campfires...figuring out whatever happened to jeff saver.....why i didn't get prize camper in 74...where is jingles anyway........lets do a big ten year since camp closed reunion next year....

Thanks, Stoney for the blow to my stomach [and gratifying my ego?].

But I must confess, it hurts just as much now as it did then, perhaps even more so. And pretending it don't, has become even harder still.

But if we did not pretend that hurting "ain't so bad", only the totally insensitive would survive. And what a boring world it would be without Altonians.

Take care y'all,
Reb Markie

Sorry I missed another reunion...I am vacationing on Cape Cod and could not get to Philly. Glad to see that everyone had a great time...also that Uncle Moishe is still working out on those abdominals!!!!

I hope someone had a camera there and took at least a few pictures...would love to put them up...so if you have them - send them on!

I hope to make the next reunion in NY or Philly...maybe for the 10 Anniversary of the closing of camp we should look at something up in NH...maybe we can do it at Kehonka <IMG SRC="wink.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=";)">

Regards to all

Sid et al (et tu Marcios):

I am sorry I was not able to attend the reunion but was committed (as I should have been years ago) to working at the Team Prep Soccer Camp which was held at Camp Cedar in Casco, ME. On our side (green) of the coaches' cabin were Altonites Dusty Richards and Mike Schafer as well as former Belknap program director, Dick Muther. Were we wrong not to have given Muther a wedgie? Tony, did you receive my e-mail? I was hoping we would cross (star?) paths in RI. Hope you had a bloody good time and to see you someday soon...as well as everyone else!
