Ride for Diabetes

Post by Larry Miller »

To My Alton Family and Friends,

I recently accepted the challenge of cycling in an American Diabetes Association's fund-raising event on Saturday, January 21, 2006. The "Ride for Jules II", is a three hour indoor spin-a-thon. The inspiration behind this event is my friend's Mom, Jules, who has been struggling with Diabetes for quite some time. I had the opportunity and pleasure to get to know Jules this past summer since she and my 97 year old grandmother, who was recovering from a broken leg, were roommates at the rehabilitation facility. I was able to admire her amazing strength and courage on a regular basis.

I'm sure that this disease has touched us all in some way or another and that is why I am reaching out to you. My motivation is strengthened by the fact that my late father had diabetes and that my brother Jim (another Altonite), has had to live with and cope with this disease since being diagnosed nearly 25 years ago.

I'm hoping you can support my fund-raising efforts with whatever contribution you can make. Your tax-deductible gift will make a difference to the more than 20 million Americans who are affected by diabetes and another 40 million who are at risk for developing the disease. You can make your donation online by clicking on the link to my spin-a-thon web page (see below), or if you prefer, you can make a check payable to the American Diabetes Association and mail it by January 15th to Larry Miller, One Salem Street, Unit 12, Swampscott, MA 01907.

Thank you very much in advance for your help and consideration. Happy new year to all of you and your families.

Sincerely, Larry Miller
