a parents weekend memory taught me a lesson

Post by Neil Rubenstein »

Today my wife and I took our 2 year old son to his first day of pre-school. My wife snuck out a little early because he was clinging to me. It was gut-wrenching leaving him in such a state, but the teachers assured me this was to be expected.

It brought back a powerful memory of my first year of camp. I was in A1 with seasoned campers. As the newbie I was not well liked.
But starting for the Doc, and catching for the likes of D. Berk, Larry Hurwitz and Donny Lato made bunk life tolerable.

During parents weekend I pleaded to go home, cried, carried on, generally made my parents feel like drek (not a drek as in flag rush vernacular).

Now I know how they felt when they told me that I must stay.

I'm glad I did. I hope my son will feel that way too. Camp taught invaluable lessons.

Too bad Nathan doesn't get a casino night to cheer him up.
