Wow now here is a blast from the past...look carefully at the photo attached and see if you recognize the building...see if there are any Alton spirits alive and well inside.

The mystery of the disappearance of the Canteen is now solved. Photos I took in the mid-90's --posted elsewhere on this website -- show that the Canteen was removed early in the deconstruction process, long before the bulldozers arrived.

Individual bunks were apparently sold as well. My photos of the same era show that many of them were marked "sold" in black spray paint. Some were no doubt purchased for the lumber, but perhaps a few were purchased to be re-assembled as hunting camps and the like. Keep your eyes open as you trod the woods!
