Interesting.

Until when was there an elective in riflery? The rifle range was fully fallen into desuetude by 1979.

(I never had the good fortune to have attended CA as a camper, but, the only time in my life, so far, that I have ever fired a .22 or any other ordnance was at a camp I attended in 7th & 8th grade. IMHO, Archery is cooler, and certainly quieter! )

I believe that is correct because my first year was 1970 and it was not an activity.

There are a number of you out there who never knew one of the most infamous leaders of riflery...Ed Dolbare (sp?) Forget the actual activity. No need to debate the right or wrong of shooting guns at camp. (That debate had its day) When you think of the often used practice area for Alton wrestling you have to remember Ed the smoker. A smoke in his hand, when lit, was an event. One drag on it, just one very looooong drag, and it would be gone. I did not know him well but the image of him smoking, when watched by a "hard working kitchen boy" like myself, was something to behold.
