The Mansion at Camp

Post by Gary Scharoff »

Came across a thread on a message forum at www.winnipesaukee.com with people blasting the guy building that huge and hideous house on the camp grounds...have since come across some recent (last fall) photos of the house...

and here is another shot:

I don't know about you but I felt like someone knocked the wind out of me when I saw these photos and what destruction was done to make room for them...

If you want to follow some of the thread on that message board it is interesting how people now are annoyed at NH for not buying the land and turning it into a state park...too bad people weren't as pissed off back in the 90s when the state of NH claimed they had no money to buy the land...

Additional discussions can be found at http://www.winnipesaukee.com/wforum/ind ... d=37644 makes for interesting reading!

By the way...I am in the process of converting the 50th Anniversary Camp Alton publication which I received courtesy of Alan Cohn, for placement on the site...and was dumbfounded to find out that the property known as Clay Point - 65 acres with 1 mile of shore front was being offered for $75,000 back in 1936 and was purchased for, to quote Chief "far below the asking price".

Just a little more trivia for what will be this year...10 years since the last Summer at camp!

Hope everyone is enjoying the matzah...me I have had enough
